West High, City High finish fourth and fifth at Pleasant Valley CC Meet

BETTENDORF – With the top four teams in the Class 4A rankings in the field the 21st Pleasant Valley Spartan Challenge provided a very early preview of the state meet.

With a little bit of a twist.

Out-of-state schools took the top two spots in the girls race that featured six teams ranked in the top 12 in Class 4A.

Edina, Minnesota won the team title with 26 points while Naperville North, Illinois was the runner-up with 55 points at the prestigious meet at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.

Class 4A No. 2 Johnston was the top Iowa finisher, placing third with 70 points.

City High's Anna Lindower

In their first head-to-head meeting of the season West High edged City High to finish in fourth place.

Led by Gabby Skopec who placed 14th in 19:32, fourth-ranked West High had three runners in the top 21 and finished with 126 points.

Anna Lindower placed 19th in 19:44 to lead No. 3 City High as the Little Hawks finished fifth with 151 points.

Top-ranked Pleasant Valley finished seventh with 206 points while No. 10 Bettendorf was eighth with 210 points.

Bailey Nock placed 17th in 19:39 while Claire Ronnebaum was 21st in 19:53 for West High.

Mary Arch placed 25th in 20:04 and Emily Bywater was 27th in 20:06 for City High.
